“Yesterday, at the stillest hour, the ground seemed to give way: my dream began. The hand moved, the clock of my life held its breath – I never heard such stillness about me.” Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra – The Stillest Hour, 1883-85.
In my photography of Victoria’s Highland forests, I seek to capture those stillest hours, when no words are spoken. These are the moments that tell my own story – seeking to better understand these forests adorning the mountainous blue rimmed skyline surrounding Melbourne, the Yarra Valley and beyond. Through my photographs, I hope that new connections can be made with our unique forest ecosystems, ultimately leading to better conservation outcomes and appreciation.
I am delighted to be exhibiting a series of my photographs at the Yering Station Art Gallery. My exhibition will be opening on 21 July 2018 and will run until 8 October 2018.
My photographs are printed on Arches Velin archival quality cotton paper and framed in hand crafted recycled timber. Profits from the sale of my framed photographs will go to the Leukaemia Auxiliary at the Royal Children’s Hospital and funding research into protecting Victoria’s critically endangered Mountain Ash forests.
I sincerely wish to acknowledge the Wurundjeri, Taungurung and Gunaikurnai peoples, upon whose land my photographs were all taken. It is their longstanding close relationship with country, their legacy spanning thousands of years, that has shaped these forests and made them into what they are today. It is imperative that we learn from their continuing legacy, so that we can enjoy these forests into the future.
I thank the Yering Station Art Gallery for hosting my photographic exhibition.
The exhibition will open on Saturday, 21 July 2018 and continue to 18 October 2018
